Terms and Conditions

  1. If you would like to add material to the site or interact with the site you must register and become a site member. As part of this you will be deemed to have consented to and be bound by these terms.
  2. You must be 16 or over to register as a member.
  3. Any content you add must not be obscene, defamatory, harassing, threatening, infringing any third party’s rights or in breach of anyone’s privacy. That includes usernames – we reserve the right to reject usernames that are unsuitable for the above reasons.
  4. Any content you add is accurate and up to date, all facts are true to the best of your knowledge and belief and, if it contains opinions, these are your own and genuinely held by you.
  5. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, and you are responsible for keeping your password secret, for making sure no one else uses it, and for letting us know of any unauthorised use.
  6. If you use any functionality of the site that allows other users of the site to contact you or leave comments you are accepting that these may be abusive, untrue or unpleasant. If it is, however, please let us know.
  7. Help Me Investigate does not claim any rights of ownership over your content. You own the rights to your own words, but give Help Me Investigate Ltd and other users the irrevocable right to use content and make it available elsewhere under the same non-commercial Creative Commons licence.
  8. Help Me Investigate does not guarantee to use your content or otherwise make it available. We may work with you to suggest, for example, better phrasings. Any submissions may be moderated or deleted at Help Me Investigate’s discretion. In some cases we may disable access to content that appears to be legally or otherwise problematic, e.g. it is defamatory. In this case we will endeavour to communicate why. Users can also disable access to content temporarily by flagging it for moderation.
  9. You agree to only use the site for lawful purposes, in a manner which does not infringe the rights of, or restrict the use of the site by anyone else. That includes (but isn’t limited to) conduct which is libellous, in breach of anyone’s privacy or which may harass, cause real distress or inconvenience to any person.
  10. You agree to indemnify and keep indemnified Help Me Investigate from and against all claims, damages, expenses, liabilities and costs (including legal fees) relating to or arising from your use of the site.
  11. You acknowledge that members may submit content you consider offensive. Help Me Investigate assumes no responsibility or liability for user content and, as it is created by users, it does not necessarily represent the views of Help Me Investigate. If you want to complain about any content, please do by using the Moderate This buttons, or contact us via the Feedback or Contact page.
  12. Help Me Investigate is not responsible for the availability or content of any third party websites or materials that you access through the site; nor do we endorse those. You access linked sites at your own risk.
  13. You may link to content on the site or send links via messaging. Help Me Investigate disclaims all liability for any legal or other consequences of links made to the site.
  14. Your data will be kept private and confidential and will not be passed on to third parties without your consent.
  15. Help Me Investigate reserves the right to change the Terms at any time by posting changes online. We’ll let you know if we do, but it is your responsibility to refer to and comply with the most up to date Terms on accessing the site.
  16. Help Me Investigate will try to make the site available to you at all times. However, you acknowledge that the quality and availability of the site may be affected by factors that are outside our reasonable control.
  17. Help Me Investigate reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue the site or any part of it at any time and without notice or liability. But we hope we don’t.
  18. You may terminate your membership at any time by following the instructions in your profile. If you do, these terms remain in effect and your content will remain on the site.
  19. The terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England. Any disputes arising from the site or terms will be decided only by the English courts.
  20. The site is only intended to be accessed from the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. If you access the site from outside of those territories you are responsible for compliance with all local laws.
